iPhone 3GS

Apple revealed the newest version of the popular iphone, the 3GS series. I am a proud owner of the previous two iphones - Edge and 3G. The first one I had bought it in 2007 August and then in 2008 June the 3G came, I just embraced it for lot of reasons (convincing my wife then also was relatively simpler - she was upgraded to 1st generation automatically)

Today I just gave a thought to myself if I would upgrade to 3GS now. I did not find one good reason  for doing that. Why do I say that? To begin with, lets look at the comparison of the 3GS with the older 3G phone.

Its quite obvious that except few features like 3.2 MP camera with autofocus, video and better battery life (which is always a very relative term), I dont see many features that are very different than the previous release.

Back in 2008, when 3G was released, that was a major change, first of all I was not completely satisfied with the browsing experience of Edge network and then there was GPS, and a much better battery life (for 3G).And above all, AT&T was offering discount on the phones and I got the new phone at an astonishing $199 (ofcourse with a 2 year contract). But now what I hear that even with signing a 2 year contract, exsiting iphone customers will not get a discount on the standard $499 price tag. I should have really gone nuts to go for this deal and above that sign another 2 year contract, for what - the crap AT&T network? Above this, there are strong rumours that Apple would end the exclusive contract with AT&T anytime soon, which means that we might see iPhone working with other carriers pretty soon.

However I was really impressed with the Video editing feature in this latest iPhone, I am just waiting for June 19th to try this one feature that I have been waiting for from long time

With all these analysis, I decided not to go for the new 3GS phonee. Though I like what Apple does, but this time I am sorry. Will wait for the next major release of the hardware, probably summer 2010
