30 Twitter Clients for your iPhone

Ever since Apple opened up App store for public, we have seen every kind of application making its mark there. I was recently reading a quote some Apple official that they pretty much have all kind of applications that somebody will be looking for, today in App store.

Twitter iPhone applications are one of the most downloaded apps today and with Twitter's popularity ever increasing, we are seeing lots of new apps getting into the app store everyday. I have categorized this into two, free and paid. Surprisingly none of these free twitter client apps feature in the top 100 list of Appstore.The order of these listing is random and is not based on any rating or ranking.I also thought to include some web clients for Twitter (though its very rare to see people using web clients in iPhone, which was so popular in the 2G days)

Free Twitter iPhone applications

  1. Nettop - New entry in Desktop segment

We had not ever heard of this PC category in 2008, but now all of a sudden this is making buzz all around for a reason!

Why was this category non-existent a year ago?
Actually its not true, this existed since some time and Apple was selling it in the form of iMac. Now all of a sudden PC makers opened up their eyes and thought that this could be the best selling thing in the shrinking economy as its gentler on anybody's wallet as well as its nice looking & cool. Nettops are a subcategory of desktop PCs and is a computing platform powered by the Atom processor that runs either Windows XP/Vista or a flavor of Linux.From a long time we are used to see a person carrying a notebook or have a desktop at his home.Ever since the economy got squeezed since 2008, people think 100 times before buying anything.That is when a this new category had its birth. Now Nettops are the new entry in this PC computing segment.
 
 
What is the difference between a Netbook and a Nettop?

I have taken the liberty of taking these definitions from wikipedia  - Netbook and Nettop

A netbook (a portmanteau of the words Internet and notebook) is a small portable laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet.Primarily designed for web browsing and e-mailing, netbooks rely heavily on the Internet for remote access to web-based applications and are targeted increasingly at cloud computing users who require a less powerful client computer.

A Nettop is a type of mini desktop or small form factor computer designed for performing basic computation tasks such as surfing the Internet, accessing web-based applications and rich internet applications, document processing and audio/video playback etc.The word Nettop is a portmanteau of Internet and desktop.

Why should I buy a nettop instead of a desktop?
  • Nettop is cheaper compared to a laptop.
  • It consumes less power than a typical desktop and hence you are becoming more greener.
  • It needs smaller space at your house and looks much cleaner to keep it around.
  • You usually would not need a powerful desktop or a laptop unless you are doing some serious programming or running complex applications.
  • It would ideally suit a retiree who would just use his computer for surfing, checking emails or youngsters who don't want the portability of a notebook.
Many companies are planning major releases of Nettops this year and by this thanksgiving we should be seeing lot of these out in the market. Discount retailers like Costco, Walmart, Target would love to sell these Nettops since it would take lesser space for their inventory than the traditional desktops & its parts.

The Million and Billion Race

Well Well Well! There are two different races going on in the technology industry.There are two competitors in one race (or rather I would say three) and the second race is dominated by one player. I hope y'all know what am talking


 

Lets talk about the first race, the million race. Two people are racing for the million subscribers in our own Twitter, first account is the most popular cnnbrk which was previously owned by James Cox and now bought by CNN for a undisclosed account. I am sure he is having a big laugh now!! CNNBRK has 949,925  followers when I write this article and by all reports is expected to reach million by tomorrow. The second guy is Ashton Kutcher and he has 922,937 followers currently.The game all started when Ashton publicly challenged CNN to the Twitter polularity contest . My favorite reporter in CNN, Larry King gave it back to Ashton by saying that CNN could bury him. Both these interesting videos can be seen here

The third person, who is also close to these two profiles, but has stayed out of this contest is the pop diva Britney Spears.She currently has 916,881 followers.

Who ever wins the race, one comany that is growing exponentially (in terms of users) is twitter and I am sure Twitter management team would be more than happy to get such free publicity and that too on a national television. If you want any of these guys to win the race and have not followed them, what are you waiting for?? Sign up with your twitter account and start following your hero Laughing. 

 The second race that I had mentioned was the iPhone app download reaching a billion count. Currently Apple reports that it has currently 959602000 downloads. The latest count can be seen here  and its updated every milli second. Now think how popular is this iphone and its appstore!! However, here apple here has no competition. Apple deserves all the credit for giving us the new era phone in 2007.Imagine life without iPhone, we would probably be stil using those old styled phones and nobody would have ever thought of getting something new. Though there are lots of iPhone clones today out in market, I think there is not one phone that could match the class of a iPhone - This is just my personal opinion and if I am offending anybody here, I apologise. I hope that android comes up with some astonishing features this year and some big player design a fanstastic phone from it.After all its from google.

 Update on 2009-04-17 -  Ashton Kutcher officially became the first person on this planet to have a million followers. He finally overtook cnnbrk and touched the million mark apromimately 30 minutes before cnnbrk had million followers. Just wanted to update this in this article.
