We had been to a cruise to Bahamas in 2006 November during ThanksGiving and I had sent a email to my friends on that trip. This is just a copy-paste of that email.

Flying - You can either fly to Fort Lauderdale or Miami. I booked my flight from www.usa3000.com as they have pretty good rates to Florida, pretty decent flight (more or less like our own Jet Airways in India ). Also check for some online discount coupons for usa3000 flights, by which you would save about $30 per head. With these coupons, my tickets came to abt $185 roundtrip from EWR per person.

Cruise: We had booked in Carnival Fascination, paying $340 per person for a 3 day cruise from Miami to Bahamas. The site from which I booked was vacationstogo.com. There are lots of sites like cruise.com etc and more or less all of these sites quote the same price. Note on Carnival Fascination: This was built in 1993 and was renovated just 3 months ago and hence it looked very very new, especially the cabins and bathrooms. So before booking any cruise, just check when it was built and when was it recently renovated. This wud matter a lot.

Visa: We had got Bahamas visitor Visa paying $55 per person. But later on Carnival told us that as long as you have a valid US Visa stamped, you need not  have any Bahamas Visa as they take care of our stay in Bahamas. In case any of you book a cruise, call the cruise directly and check if you would need a Visa. You never know, you would save $55 per person.

The Trip : Landed in Miami at 11:00 am on 23rd, rented a car and headed towards the resort (NewPort Sea Resort) that I had booked in North Miami.  Not wasting much time there, started driving to Key West, which is about 150+ miles from Miami. Though I could not go see all the 5 keys, I covered 3 keys, which was pretty good. Came back to resort at around 7:00pm and spent time in their very clean private beach.

Checked out of the resort the next day and returned my Dollar rental car in their Miami Port location ( Dollar does not charge anything extra for returning cars in a different locations, though lot other do have a charge for that). Took the dollar shuttle and reached the Miami port at 1:00 pm,finished with embarkation process and was in the cruise at 2:00pm. The first impression is probably the best impression. We were really zapped seeing the inside of cruise. From then on, you dont need any guide as you will learn very fast the life in a cruise. But just make sure that you have read the activities menu that are in your cabins properly for each day as there will be lots of shows, dances and comedy shows in  the cruise.

The next day you reach Bahamas and you have one whole day to spend there. You can either chose to take the cruise sponsored tours or go on your own. Cruise sponsored are pretty expensive and you land up paying almost double the price if you take it on your own. We paid $25 per head and got a 3 hour tour and rest of the day we spent in the beach. Just make sure that you had enough for your stomach before leaving the cruise for sightseeing

Came back to the cruise at around 6:00pm and enjoed the rest time in cruise. That day was a formal dining night and it was really fun! The last day was the day in sea and we just relaxed in the cruise eating, sleeping and partying. By the by you get lots of Pina Coladas and Bahama Mamas to drink  along with the normal drinks. You need to pay extra for all these drinks. You wud also end up loosing (or gaining) money in the beautiful casino on the cruise.

The next day we got out of the cruise in morning and again rented a car as I had my flight in the evening. Went around South Beach area and took our flight back to reach the very depressing NJ at around 11:00 in the night.

Total cost - Abt $1700
Rating - * * * *

P.S : I am writing this as many of you guys showed interst in the Cruise and I dont work parttime for Carnival or usa3000 or dollar car :),

Date -  January 31st 2009,
Event - Pranutha's First Birthday Party
Venue - Ramada Inn, SouthPlainfield, NewJersey, USA

The first birthday party of Pranutha will be ever remembered, by both me and Sannutha for various reasons. We had too many expectations from the party and in the process we over killed ourselves and messed up lot of things. The guests list was about 55 adults and 15 kids.Pretty much everybody had turned up.

To start with,I was sick on Friday and decided to work from home as I did not want to take any risk on my health.By EOD, 3 tylenols had worked on me and I was pretty much ok.But even before I became alright, Pranutha had started Diarrhea. She had done it almost 4-5 times and Sannu was already tired changing diapers (and me disposing it).A few doses of Pedialite had worked on her and she looked a bit ok by 9:00, though we were both very disappointed that she lost most of her chubby cheeks and looked so weak and pale. This was not fair for the birthday girl.

We all slept by 11:30pm and when I woke up at 7:00am, Sannu looked so worried and tensed, a scene not to be seen very often. I then learnt that Pranu had started it once again and the worst part is now she was not taking any fluids. We deicded to visit her doc at 9:00 am.By then she had already done it 7-8 times. As expected, doc did not give any medicine, except advised us to fill her with fluids.Surprisingly she started taking rice starch the time we came back home and our dear friend Sonali suggested some home made medicine, which really made wonders.By 2:00pm she had completely stopped putting out and looked somewhat relaxed. We then had to rush to get lot of decorative items for the party.Oh my God,so many things pending and so less time. During the same time, my other friend called and informed that her Dad who was supposed to perform the magic show in the party is sick and will not come. Digesting that we ran to the nearby Party city to get all stuff, blew up about 40-50 baloons and reached the party hall at 4:00pm. While Sannu was as cool as ice, I was in the other extreme. She started decorating the banquet hall while I rushed to a departmental store to pick up some  soda and get the remaining baloons from party city. When I came back, Sannu had finished most of her decoration.O boy, she had done a amazing job, and that too all alone.I was very impressed. We then rushed home, by  which time there were already lot of relatives assembled at my home.Birthday girl was peacefully sleeping in Jeevan's lap.

Somehow we all managed to get ready by 6:45 and reached the hall at 7:10 after picking up the birthday cake on the way.By then there were atleast 15 to 20 guests in there and it was so embrassing to reaching late, we being hosts. DJ Amit and MC Vincent were also there on time and had already done their setup.

We started the party with  serving of the appetizers/starters and we both were making rounds talking to all guests. The dance floor was opened at 8:00 after the guest of honor and people slowly started coming to the dance floor. I was busy inviting everybody to the floor and probably by 8:30, most of them had made at least one visit to the floor.I was then thinking, half battle one.The dance continued till about 9:15 and then we announced the dinner. We had planned the cake cutting after the dinner. It was about 10:00pm and the dinner was still going on and we became a bit worried as Pranutha was feeling sleepy.MC then announced the birthday celebration and the cake was cut.By the time cake was given to all, some guests had already planned to leave, as lot of kids were tired and feeling sleepy. I think by 10:45 all had left except our relatives. We then had some family photos and left the place by 11:30 after packing all the stuff.

I could not sleep a lot that night as the memories of the party were just coming in front of my eyes and same was the case with Sannu. We were thinking of lot of things that were planned but not executed. But the most heartening thing was that all guests told nice things about the party and most of them looked happy that day, which is what we all wanted.

I have always  dreamed of having a great body with all those six pack abs, chest, biceps, triceps and what not.But I realized long back that its extremely tough to achieve that and requires lot of dedication. As a matter of fact, I started hitting gym way back in 1999 when I was a fresh college passed out in India.I have been more or less punctual going to gym at least 4 to 5 days a week. But till late it was mostly very light weight training, some cardio and few running sessions.

Recently I was watching the video where in bollywood actor, Aamir Khan showed how he transformed from a chubby man to a rough and tough guy for his last film Ghajjini (which is loosely based on 2000 Hollywood thriller Memento). The video can be watched here  .  I really got inspired watching it and came to a conclusion that if he can do it at age of 43, I should be able to achieve at least 25% of what he did at 31. Hence I started a new routine where in I do a bit more heavy weight training, more cardio and more of running.

Today me and Jeevan both were in gym at sharp 6:00am, we did some stretching for 10 minutes, got on to the elyptical machine for 10minutes to just warm up ourselves. I found that this helps you a lot in weight training especially in the freezing weather and I am more at ease lifting weights. I then did 100 pull ups on the machine and 50 parallel bar dips.We then started doing exercises for chest and triceps parallely.Benchpress (flat and inclined), dumbell press, pull over, machine press were some of things we did for chest while triceps covered bar, curlbar, peach curl, machine pull, dumbell - single hand and double hand and back dips. We ended with some forearm weights and then realized that it was already 7:10, we had to rush back with just 3 sets of abdomen, on the declined bench.

I had decided to start eating healthy, atleast in the morning and have been doing this since last 3 weeks.  Two reasons for this, one is to get my dream body (not sure if it will be just a dream!)and other is that when I got my physicals done in late 2008, my doc found that my bad cholesterol had gone up from 125 to 143, which is not at all good considering the fact that I do lot of physical activities. One reason for that could be that my family was in India for 3 months last year and during that period I did eat lot of junk/frozen food. So all these made me stop having Indian breakfast and switch to Costco Raisn Bran or Oat Meal everyday morning. I have also started taking whea protien, we actually make smoothie and add the protien powder to it. Along with that I take two egg whites, all effort to add protiens to my body. This has actually helped me a lot, I dont get tired very easily now, I dont get cramps in the night on a day of heavy physical exercises and I sleep more peacefully now (untill Pranutha wakes me up in midnight for her formula). With all these, I got ready to office and had a nice sleep in the train, when I woke up, I was in Midtown Manhattan. One more day in office. Have a great day!
